Is the idea of having a truly satisfying job pure fantasy?
Are our career dreams one thing and practical job realities another?
How can we make the two collide?
This week I wanted to know how more of us can get dreams and reality to collide for the sake of our careers.
It seems so many of us endlessly complain about our jobs - how boring they are, and but we don’t do anything about it.
We spend most of our week at work. The jobs we say we hate, actually play a significant role in our lives.
Therefore having a strong sense of job satisfaction is important.
There is no reason not to think big and get that dream job, or at least attempt turn our jobs into a dream job.
I have found practical and simple advice that proves it is possible to get job satisfaction from a practical choice of career.
Job satisfaction doesn't have to mean pursuing the ultra-glamorous, it can be found in the most unexpected places.
It appears the heart of job satisfaction is in your attitude and expectations; it's more about how you approach your job than the actual duties you perform.
It is still our responsibility to make sure what we are doing is satisfying, to choose how we live our lives. Tips for building job satisfaction:
- Know yourself, understand your strengths and weaknesses. Knowing this will help you to set appropriate goals, and manage your own expectations.
- Make interesting challenges, even if the job itself is not all that challenging, you can make it challenging.
- Minimize boredom, when your mind is bored you lack interest and enthusiasm and even a well-matched job becomes dissatisfying.
- Attitude plays a huge role in how you perceive your job and your life in general. Making a change to a positive attitude is a complex process that requires a lot of work and a strong commitment.
- Keep your life and work in balance. When you focus too much on one at the expense of the other you risk putting your whole system in distress.
- Find a sense of purpose in the things you do. Even if you have a boring job, it helps a lot if you can see the real benefit you're providing for people.
If you have your dream job, or experience job satisfaction, how did you get there?
Have a great week,
