How to grab your power back!

Do you ever find yourself feeling flat because someone or something flattens you? Perhaps you don’t have enough money to pay a bill and as well as your bank account being drained – you are too? Don’t worry – here are five steps that will have you no longer giving your power away to circumstances but instead grabbing it back so you can be more confident that you have the skills to handle anything!

1. Create a journal: Either in a notebook or in a document on your desktop start noticing the times when you feel like something is worrying you, someone annoys you, or you get angry about something. Spend 48 hours noticing these times and write down what the situation was. (e.g. when I had to pay a bill, when she criticised me)

2. Write your limiting beliefs: After the 48 hour period go back and write under each of those times what your limiting belief is with regard to that situation. If it was feeling like you couldn’t pay a bill then a limiting belief may be “I have no money” or if you were criticised your limiting belief might be “I’m useless”

3. Supporting beliefs: Now go back and underneath the limiting belief create yourself some supporting beliefs. This is a positive statement that will support you in what you want to achieve – in case of the “I don’t have any money” try “Money is coming in in bucket loads or convert “I am useless” to “I am highly effective in everything I do)  Write yourself a list of 3 positive statements. When I did this exercise I noticed that even though the situation may be different – the limiting belief could be the same!

4. Affirm, affirm, and affirm: write these three positive statements or affirmations together at the bottom of your journal or word document. Now work on how you can imprint these beliefs. This involves replacing any negative thoughts you might have with these supporting beliefs. Email them to yourself when you get to work in the morning – put them at your bedside and read them before you go to sleep. Recite them in the shower, or when you brush your teeth! Get into a habit of repeating these supporting beliefs until you believe them to be true!

5. Now sit back: Sit back and watch yourself act more confidently, gain more energy and be less vulnerable to people, things and situations. You’ll stop giving your power away at these times and become a brand new, empowered you!
