What’s your excuse for not exercising?

Many of us have become experts at avoiding exercise, in fact we become so good at it that we might actually manage to avoid it all together for months or even years. But at what price?

We often encounter obstacles that prevent us from exercising or eating right so let’s try and work on some solutions that will get us back on track. Being solution focused rather then problem orientated is crucial. It’s very hard to solve something if you continually think of the problem. However, if you start to find ways to overcome problems, things begin to look a lot clearer and you may be surprised at how easy it is.

What’s your excuse?

I don’t have the time:
•    This is probably the biggest excuse I have heard but exercise need not take as long as you think. As little as 20 minutes of high intensity exercise 5 times per week is achievable for most and can even be broken up into two segments of 10 minutes.
•    Schedule your workouts into your diary just as if they were appointments and don’t give them up for anyone.

I am too tired or don’t have the energy:
•    This is a bit of a catch 22 because if you feel tired you are going to be less motivated to exercise, however, if you exercise regularly I guarantee that you will have more energy and won’t be half as tired. So just do it!
•    Eating a healthy and balanced diet will help energise your body and you will be more inclined to maintain that feel good factor by exercising.
•    Get 7-8 hours sleep per night. There is research to suggest that being sleep deprived can cause you to gain weight.

I can’t afford to join a gym or get myself a trainer:
•    You will actually save more money by not joining a gym. Statistics show that around 50%-60% of those that join gyms drop out within first few months and because many gyms tie you into contracts you will be continuing to pay for a service you don’t use.
•    Depending on how motivated you are it is possible to engage the services of a personal trainer just to tailor you a programme to do on your own at home. A session with a personal trainer once every four to six weeks may well be within your budget and would be a worthwhile investment. In your health.
•    You can train at home with minimal equipment and it’s free. Choose your worst work out outfit, your favourite music and away you go.

It’s not a priority:
•    Make it a priority before it’s too late. If you don’t have your health you are going to struggle to run a business, take care of your family or enjoy the finer things in life.

You have the choice!! So it’s time to take charge before it’s too late. And remember if you don’t make time for exercise you will have to make time for sickness.
